Everybody loves a good milkshake, and everybody loves coffee. So why not put them together and have a mega-dessert? That’s what I tried to do with this recipe, but I didn’t just pour some coffee and ice cream into a blender. Instead, I tried to elevate it a bit with some Turkish flair.
Traditional Turkish coffee is really amazing. It’s made in a tiny pot called an ibrik, which, along with a hint of cardamom, really encapsulates full-bodied flavor. The process is slightly involved, but totally worth it. I made some for this site a few weeks back, but felt like it wasn’t really relatable—and I couldn’t get the photos where I wanted them to be. So instead I thought I’d bring the flavors to something everybody would gladly make: a creamy milkshake.
In addition to cardamom, I added a few other spices here to give it a little more kick. The whole thing only takes a few minutes to make, but you’ll want to drink it slow and savor all the goodness contained in each sip.
For the ice cream, I used DF Mavens’ Madagascar Vanilla, which is absolutely perfect. If you can find it, I highly recommend using it. Or if you’re ambitious, you can try making this ice cream (sans coffee).
Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below!
