Chili-Charred Edamame

Spice up your dinner table with this Chili-Charred Edamame. It’s a really simple appetizer that’s packed with protein and fiery chili oil.

Chili-Charred Edamame

Our town of Montclair has a great restaurant called Ani Ramen House. It’s obvious what their specialty is—and they do it well. But my favorite thing on the menu is the Chili-Charred Edamame. It’s a simple thing, but I really love it. So much, in fact, that I came up with my own version so I could have it whenever I want.

Edamame is something that’s pretty ubiquitous in Japanese restaurants. It’s almost always the same though: either simply salted or totally plain. That’s why Ani Ramen House’s recipe stood out to me. The spice is such a fantastic upgrade.

Ingredients

Chili-Charred Edamame

This is such an easy dish to make. It only requires the four ingredients shown above: edamame, sea salt, chili oil and sesame oil. And if you want even more flavor, throw a teaspoon of minced garlic into the pan once the sesame oil is heated up and sauté it for thirty seconds. I personally think these four ingredients provide enough flavor, but the garlic could be a good addition.

The edamame I use when I make this recipe is pre-packaged. So I just follow the directions on the package, which is essentially steaming it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Then it moves to a pan on the stovetop for the charring and additional ingredients. So easy!

If you need an easy appetizer for your next dinner, this is the dish for you (Another good one is these Japchae Spring Rolls with Sunbutter Sauce). The ingredients are simple and the time is short, but the flavor is out of this world. I think you’re going to love it.

Hi there! 👋 It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted. Turns out training for a marathon takes just about all of your effort. Who knew? But I’m back now with what I hope will be the first of consistent weekly recipes (at least until the next marathon 😂).

This one is for Baked Tofu and Baby Bok Choy. It’s SUPER simple and takes very little effort. Plus it’s totally versatile too; you can serve it with rice, with noodles, or even in a soup—whatever you’re feeling on the day.

I used @nasoya’s extra firm tofu here because it’s non-GMO Project verified, USDA organic, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, and preservative-free. All the things I look for when buying products these days.

I’m so happy to be back sharing recipes and can’t wait to pit a few more out there in the upcoming weeks!

Yes it’s 60 degrees in New Jersey in December 😬. But that’s still comfort food weather to me, and nothing fits the bill better than this Beefless Beef Stew with @gardein Beefless Tips—a long-time reader favorite on the NFV website. It’s hearty and totally delicious. Grab the recipe link in my profile and enjoy!
We have a wonderful ramen restaurant here in our t We have a wonderful ramen restaurant here in our town of Montclair. They offer a vegan version they is out of this world. But whenever we order from them Laura and I are equally, of not more, excited about the edamame they serve: it’s tossed in chili oil and charred. So amazing. Of course I had to take a shot at recreating it for the site and this Chili-Charred Edamame recipe was born. It’s great as either an appetizer or a snack! Check out the recipe at the link in my profile.
