It’s January, a time when a lot of us think about changes we can make to better ourselves in the new year. That could mean meditating everyday, trying yoga, or maybe eating differently. Whatever it is, the point is to make different decisions and adopt new habits to help us feel better. For me a big part of feeling great is doing no harm to others, including animals. That’s a big part of why I make the choices I do, and why I love the Veganuary movement.
What is Veganuary?
At its core Veganuary is a vehicle for compassion. It’s an initiative started in the U.K. in 2014 to encourage people worldwide to try a vegan lifestyle for one month. Now in its eighth year, there are over half a million participants each January. Restaurants create new menus specifically for it, companies launch new products in conjunction with it, and—best of all—there are a lot of animals being kept off plates around the world. That’s better for them, better for us, and better for the planet.
